Following the 106th meeting of the National Judicial Council on Thursday presided over by outgoing CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the body has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the chief justice of Nigeria, according to NJC Spokesperson, Soji Oye.
Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo was born on May 7, 1958. She’s 66 years old.
She had her law degree from University of Lagos and was call to bar in 1981.
Her legal career start in Lagos south west Nigeria.
Her first appointment was as a Senior Magistrate Grade II, Lagos State Judiciary in December 1989 before becoming a Judge of the Lagos High Court on July 1996.
Justice Kekere Ekun serve as Chairman Robbery and Firearms Tribunal, Zone II, Ikeja, Lagos from November 1996 to May 1999 before her elevation to the court of appeal in 2004.
On June 8, 2013, she was promoted to the Supreme Court.
Justice Kekere Ekun is a muslim who also has passion for reading, music, information technology and counselling.
Age 66, she’s expect to pilot the affairs of the judiciary till the mandatory retirement age of 70.
