KWASIEC seeks INEC support towards credible Local Govt Election

The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWASIEC has pledged to form a robust partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in ensuring a credible Local Government Election.

KWASIEC Chairman, Okanla Baba, led the board to a familiarization visit to Mallam Garba Madami, INEC Resident Electoral Commission in the state, explained that the collaboration became imperative in view of INEC’S performance, especially during the last general elections.

Okanla Baba said the state electoral body can not carry out the task ahead without INEC’S advise, guidance and encouragement for a free, fair and credible election that would be acceptable to the people of Kwara State.

He charged Kwarans to come out enmass to vote for candidates and parties of their choice.

In his response, Kwara INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners, Mallam Garba Madami, stressed the need for the KWASIEC staff across board to display a high level of integrity, commitment and be guided by their conscience and as well as electoral laws.

“We will not only stop on advice; we will give them support. If they need materials that will assist them to conduct the election– even training. We want Kwara to be the first local government election that will be free, fair and credible,” he said.

The Kwara State REC also advised the state electoral body to pay attention to areas of staff training, observing that the task ahead would be less burdensome because Kwarans are known peaceful coexistence.

He also advised the KWASIEC Chairman to be ready to take criticisms in good faith and embrace team work.

Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, submitted seven nominees for the board of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, to the State House of Assembly which was ratified in preparation ahead of the election across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.
