Nigerian has been thrown into mourning following the death of the CEO of Access bank, Herbert Wigwe and five others who died on Friday in a helicopter crash in Southern California’s Mojave Desert.
Herbert Wigwe, wife and son were among the six people on board when the aircraft collapsed after 10 p.m. near Interstate 15 as six people were killed – two pilots and Bamofin Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of NGX Group, the Nigerian stock exchange.
President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mourned the deceased saying,
“Their passing is an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension and i pray for the peaceful repose of the departed and ask God Almighty to comfort the multitude of Nigerians who are grieving and the families of the deceased at this deeply agonizing moment.”
It was a rude shock when the death of Wigwe, 57, his wife – Chizoba; and son – Chizi was announced.
He was regarded as a reputable industry leader over the years with involvement in two of Nigeria biggest banks, Guaranty Trust Bank and Access.
Access Bank statement to mourn their CEO said his “passion and unwavering commitment to excellence transformed Access into a global powerhouse. His legacy of excellence and compassion will continue to inspire us all,” the statement said.
The helicopter crash happened south of I-15 near Halloran Springs Road, about 75 miles (120 km) northeast of Barstow.
