Excitement as BSMC 2024 Interhouse Sport ends in style

The 28th inter house sport competition of the great citadel of learning Bishop Smith Memorial College senior Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria was held on Wednesday 21st February, 2024 with the theme “Promoting our culture through grassroots sport “.

The teachers and students were full of great enthusiasm because the competition was last held in 2017.

It was all sweet relief to all and sundry as all road led to the school main athletic field on the D – day of the finals.

School principal Mr R. O Agunbiade in his speech at the event, showed much delight and appreciation to the sport planning committee, invited guests, special guest of honour in absential Ambassador Prof Olufolake AbdulRahman, the school proprietor Rt Rev STG Adewole (Bishop of the Anglican Diocese) , chairman of the day Sir Philip, father of the day Chief Odetundun amongst other dignatries in attendance.

During his closing remark, school principal, Agunbiade R.O, urged participants to take the outcome of the results in the Spirit of sportsmanship.

The event was marked with dancing cultural display to entertain the guests where four tribes were represented in: Benue dance by Blue House, Atilogue dance by Green house, Bata dance by the Red House and Hausa /Fulani dance by Yellow House which depict the theme of the sporting event, much to the delight of the guests and visitors.

It was followed by March Past where Yellow came in with the 1st position, Green house got 2nd, 3rd position went to Blue House and Red House came in at the rear in 4th position.

Chairman of the occasion, Sir Philip an Estate surveyor appreciated the school for inviting him and promised to support the school financially to ensure the event is held annual, adding that it will curb negative vices amongst the students.

He encouraged other dignitaries to support the school to make it realistic in the future.

Chairman TESCOM was ably represented by Alhaja Baba Jubril, the Director Schools and Colleges was also represented by Alhaja Usman.

Invited schools at the event for the 4×100 meter relay race were : Anglican Grammar School, St Joseph Secondary school, Gaa Akanbi secondary school, St Barnabas, BSMC junior secondary school, C& S College amongst others.

Green House won Gold followed by yellow house with Silver as Blue House got Bronze at the colourful ceremony which ended around 3pm.
