Nigeria Court Charges Binance for Irregularities

Charges have been laid against Cryptocurrency exchange Binanace and their executives authorities for failure to pay tax and a suspicion of money laundering.

During a court process in Abuja which had Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance but Nadeem Anjarwalla, the company’s regional manager was absent.

Allegations brought against Binance includes failure to get an operating license, unlawfully negotiating foreign exchange rates, failure to pay tax and concealing the origin of illegal proceeds amounting to $35.4 million.

Gambaryan and Anjarwalla had been arrested in February, but refuted the charges, claiming the authorities had arrested them on illegal terms.

Gambaryan’s lawyer and the public prosecutor clash over representing the company – Binance without permission which forced the court to adjourned the trial until April 8, 2024.

Controversial reports had developed, claiming the Nigerian government requested the names of citizens trading on the platform.
