Opposition Leader Ghannouchi Joins Protest in Tunisia

Rached Ghannouchi, Tunisia opposition leader joined other anti government crafts on hunger strike in wake of a protest.

A critic of President Kais Saied and head of the Ennahda main opposition party was last year imprisoned with claims of treason and plotting against the police.

In a separate conviction, the 82 year old has also been sentenced early this year to three years in prison for accepting external financing.

Attorneys said while he is fighting the empty stomach battle, Ghannouchi calls on patriotic citizens to stick to a democratic nation with inclusive basis of freedom and the independence of the judiciary.

Since 2023, six rival leaders were arrested in a meltdown that kick-start a virtual hunger strike last week to protest at their imprisonment without trial, demanding immediate release from prison.
