The United state will look into the killing of civilians in Ethiopia where activist group reported over 80 killings last week after clashes involving soldiers and armed groups.
Ervin Massinga, U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia,
disclosed that the “U.S. government is very concerned with the situation in Merawi town and called for concerned parties to investigate and put things in order.
The government moved to dissolve forces last year, absorbing them into the federal army was unwelcome as militia group Fano launched a surprise assault in August, capturing towns across Amhara over several days before retreating.
Ethiopia Human Rights Council received information showing human rights violations were done during fighting in Merawi on Jan. 29, saying more than 80 civilians were killed, mostly men.
