Italy appeal court has said returning sea migrants back to Libya is unlawful.

In a new ruling, the Court of Cassation upheld the conviction of Asso, captain of an Italian towboat, who saved 101 migrants from a rubber dinghy and returned them to Libya in 2018.

The victims were pregnant women and children at the international waters about 105 km off Libya however, the rulings have also been praised by nom governmental organisations.

Italy and other European governments have shown tougher rules on immigration, in spite of increase in support for right-wing parties that want massive curbs on sea arrivals from North Africa.
