Niger citizens are battling with commodity prices, to afford essential items as the Holy month of Ramadan commences across the world.
Changes in government has affected the nations economy which resulted in imposing embargo by neighboring countries for the last eight month.
However, the embargo was lifted weeks before the commencement of Ramadan, which gave many hopes but the situation remains the same.
Commodities as rice, sugar, oil, and milk and other items has became inflated in price for Nigeriens.
Citizens are of the opinion that government should ease the hardships.
The cause of the crisis lies in the junta’s struggle to produce essential goods while the disruption caused by the embargo, combined with the junta’s inability to effectively manage the economy.
Furthermore, logistical challenges, such as those highlighted by business owner Elhadj Yacouba Dan Maradi, disclosed that the Togo corridor passing through Burkina Faso, further complicate logistical situation as delays and inefficiencies in transporting goods culminated in shortages, contributing to price inflation.
