The Eighth Yoruba Chief of the Greater Accra Region, Alhaji Oba Hamza Brimah VIII passed away on Thursday night in Accra, Ghana, age Sixty-five.
He has been buried according to Islamic rites and survived by wife and children.
Chief Hamza Brimah, whose ancestors are from Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, became the eighth chief of accra in 2017. He ruled the region with the assistance of Council of Elders, notably, Asiwaju, Alhaji Baba Musa, Otumba, Alhaji Billy Brimah, Alhaji Rasha Peregrino Brimah, Alhaji Rasak Brimah, Alhaji Sura Lawal and Alhaji Tunde Salami – all with Ilorin Origin.
During his seven year reign, Chief Hamza Brimah VIII was able to establish peace and solve conflicts among Yorubas, Fulanis, Hausas and other ethnic groups in the Zongo communities in Accra.
He will be remembered for his bilateral engagement in 2020, when he conferred Ilorin born Politician, Moshood Mustapha with a traditional title of Olu Omo of Yoruba Land (Accra Region), an event attended by Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, Business moguls and members of the Political class in Nigeria together with Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo- Addo and Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Amb. Femi Abikoye.
The Late monarch has a lineage Founder of Yoruba Kingdom in Accra, Ghana, Alhaji Brimah I, who was an immigrant from Ilorin, present day Kwara State, Nigeria – one of the early Nigerian settlers in Ghana. A successful business man in his days who worked with the British Consul as Head of the Mohammedans.
