Despite no official declaration of results, Senegals ruling party candidate Amadou Ba, has admitted defeat at the presidential election held on Sunday.

Amadou Ba was in touch with oppositions candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, congratulating him in advance after Sundays poll following trends that cannot be disputed as large crowds supporting Ousmane Sonko consiligere – Bassirou Diomaye Faye, occupied the streets in celebrations.

About 7.3 million Senegalese registered for the vote but for any candidate to be declared as winner, he must have over 50 percent of votes in the first round or else it goes to a runoff.

However, the latest scenes in Dakar, Ziguinchor- Sonkos stronghold and St. Louis, shows that a run off is unlikely as the other 17 candidates have also conceded defeat.

Prior to the elections, which was threatened by postponement by Outgoing president, Macky Sall, saw both Ibrahim Sonko and his protégé, Diomaye Faye released from prison in time for the elections.

Faye, 44 years of age, will have alot on his hands by the time he comes on board. Majority of the young population in Ziguinchor – Oppositions stronghold, wants the region to be developed to Dakars standard.

Similarly, high rate of employment and inflation is another concerned Faye may look to address.

Voters, expressed satisfaction towards the election process as many conceded that democracy in Senegal remains undettered and seemingly happy the nation was able to preserve its reputation as West africa most stable political nation in its fourth democratic transfer of power since gaining independence.
