Senegal Election: Macky Sall insist postponement was for the best interest of democracy

Outgoing Senegalese President Macky Sall has said the decision to postpone the election was important to avert an impending crisis.

The President, in his first public speech following the announcement of the postponement, during a nationwide protests opined that he’s for an inclusive, transparent and peaceful process that will allow him to handover the baton in peace which is very important for Senegal.

Sall believes a predisposition can solve the situation in the country adding that some prerequisites are needed to be followed to guarantee success which is to establish trust between the actors and bring peace.

The current situation has seen opposition filed an appeal at the Constituional court, voted by Parliament to postponed the election is also contested by candidates in the presidential election.

However, from the 20 candidates, 14 appealed to the Supreme Court.
