Human rights in Ethiopia claims at least 45 people lost their lives in a door-to-door raids by federal security forces in northern Amhara region last month.
Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC), revealed the identity of the civilians who were extrajudicially killed by government security forces for allegiance with Fano.
Following months of clashes between the military and the ethnic Amhara militia – it describes itself as self-defence organisation who draws candidate from the local areas.
The United States and the European Union have steamed up calls for investigation into the killings in Merawi town while the federal government are yet to say anything on the latest killings on the crisis which started last year, prompting a declaration of a state of emergency in the region.
Since a peace agreement was signed in November 2022 which ended a two year unrest in a border town, the Amhara violence is Ethiopia’s most serious crisis.
It was claimed that federal troops team up with
Fano and Amhara regional forces, in the war, which prompted the militia to start a war in April last year against government plans to disarm them.
