Crisis continue to rock Eastern DR Congo with dozen killed and 16 others smuggled away by rebels at a mining site.
A known CODECO armed group lay siege at a gold mine near the Ituri province, close to Djugu district according to an eye witness.
The unrest in the area started decades ago with over 120 armed groups clashing in the region in the bid to control land and mines containing valuable minerals as others try to protect their communities.
The attacks have killed about 1,800, injuring more than 500 in the four years to 2022, according to Research by an organisation.
The notorious group, targets areas rich in gold and minerals.
Congo has some of the world’s largest deposits of rare earth minerals, such as cobalt and copper, which are in high demand for the manufacture of electric vehicles, wind turbines, and solar panels.
Military commander, Yves Kadjena was dejected by the latest violence, following CODECO signed a peace agreement with other forces in January.
