An unknown Australian tourist was missing in Zimbabwe some seven days ago, near Victoria Falls, national park officials said on Monday.
The unknown tourist who is predicted to be 67-year-old, went missing from Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls National Park last friday though a search mission has commenced with the use of dogs sniffing, spokesperson of Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Tinashe Farawo said on Monday.
He was suspected to be a male who was last seen on February 17.
Sources said the missing tourist was alone at a luxury hotel located 3 kilometers from the rainforest park where he went to park on Feb. 17.
Information gathered revealed he didn’t entered the park during a CCTV footage subsequently viewed during security check, Mr. Farawo said.
The latest occurrence has shaken the entire nation as it became rare for such circumstances for a place that has attracted thousands of tourists from around the world for its majestic curtain of water that tumbles more than 108 meters from the mighty Zambezi River to a gorge below, casting up a mist visible for miles around.
A team of police and rangers, sniffer dogs, professional ground trackers and drones to track down the Australian tourist on Friday was set out by security agencies.
Sometimes in October, 2023, a german tourist went missing last in wildlife-rich Matusadona National Park in northern Zimbabwe before he was found alive later.
