About 12 muslims lost their lives in a mosque attack in eastern Burkina Faso on the same day a deadly attack on Catholics attending mass gathering according to sources.
Unknown individuals lay siege at a mosque in Natiaboani in the early hours of Sunday with about dozen killed.
Sources said, all victims were men who came for morning prayers while others claimed the armed group arrived around 5:00am, circled the mosque and unleashed fire arms at them which claimed several casualties including a religious leader.
The incident witness also saw attacks on Soldiers and members of the Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland (VDP), a civilian force that supports the military, local sources explained, terming it as a large-scale attack with the numbers of in individuals who wreaked substantial damage.
The rural area Natiaboani is located 60 kilometres (37 miles) south of Fada N’Gour ma, main town in Burkina’s eastern region, which has witnessed continous attacks by different forces since 2018.
In a similar development, 15 civilians were killed with two injured in an attack on a Catholic church during a mass gathering on Sunday, in northern Burkina Faso, Jean-Pierre Sawadogo, vicar of the Dori diocese, moaned in a statement.
He said the incident happened in Essakane village – the three borders zone in the northeast of the country, close to the borders of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger during Sunday prayers.
