A bomb scare in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls resulted in a shut down by the country’s president which cancel a planned conference on renewable energy, said an official.
President Edson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe cancelled a proposed conference in the morning, suspending his trip for investigations underway, according to presidential spokesman George Charamba.
Charamba noted that airport authorities were told by Fastjet airline about a message sent by John Doe claiming a credible bomb/firearm threat targeting Zimbabwe’s airports.
Zimbabwe Civil Aviation Authority said the incident had delayed and divert flights schedule, and could result into more complications as such development are unusual in southern African countries particularly in 2018 where an explosion in Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, Bulawayo, killed two and wounded 50 during a campaign prior to the presidential elections.
Mnangagwa, noted the explosion happened distance from him, but was unharmed. Two vice presidents and other officials were wounded while two security agent died from their injuries and two innocent men arrested shortly after the explosion were later freed.
